What are Devon Rex Cats like?

There is no doubt that the Devon Rex is an unusual-looking cat, with soft wavy fur, a slender body, long legs, a long skinny neck, and a wide wedge-shaped head with huge ears and large oval eyes, they are often thought to be very 'pixie-like in appearance.  They are also quite mischievous and pixie-like in their behaviour too!

Devons are generally athletic, very affectionate, and have high energy levels. They love to play, climb, chase, and fetch. Cat trees, scratching posts, and obstacle courses can help to keep your Devon entertained and burn off some of their energy. They are not a breed that likes to be left alone for hours on end so if you work a lot, this breed may not be for you, or they will need a companion to entertain them whilst you are away.

Devons are often very vocal, with chirrups and trills, clicks, chats, and purrs as they either perch on your shoulder, snuggle with you under the covers, or look for ways to help you with your chores - be prepared to share your toilet breaks with an interested observer forever more!

Loving and gentle by nature too, a true lap cat as soon as you sit down, Devons are very tolerant, and love attention so they are a good choice for households with younger children, or equally, those households with only one adult that has the time, affection and energy to provide them with the attention and love they crave.

Devons are best suited to an indoor-only life.  They have very fine fur as the gene mutation which allows the amazing wavy coat texture also means they have little to no guard hairs to keep them warm so they don’t like, or cope with, cold very well.  However, a walk on a harness in the garden sunshine or play in an enclosed catio would be much enjoyed!
